Chillicothe Middle School

After school tutoring will be starting today for CMS. Mon & Wed will be Social Studies & ELA, while Tues & Thurs will focus on Math & Science. Tutoring will run after school until 4:00. Please call the office if you would like your child to stay for tutoring, 660-646-1916.

Chillicothe 8th grade girls got their first win in a hard fought battle at Kirksville with a score of 28-19. Hornets defensive pressure and team play helped edge out the Tigers! Emerson Staton led all scorers with 15, Maicee Albrecht dropped in 9 and Hayden Hansen dropped in two free throws and Charley Peniston added her first bucket ever! Lady Hornets will play a 3 game night at Brookfield Friday! Chillicothe 8th grade boys played at Kirksville on Thursday November 12, 2021. Final score was 53 to 22 with Kirksville getting the win. Halftime score was 21-19 with Chillicothe leading. Jaishon White lead the Hornets in scoring with 16 points. Drake Swift, Luke Thompson and Dane Ireland added 2 points a piece. The 8th grade Hornets play at home next Thursday against the Marshall Owls.

From the desk of Monsieur French: Tuesday, September 28th the 8th Grade CMS Hornets hosted Macon's 8th Grade team after the 7th Grade game. The Hornets had a good ground game going early; however, costly penalties forced a punt and another turnover on downs. One turnover deep in our own territory resulted in a Macon touchdown after an earlier Macon score to put the halftime score at Macon 12 - CMS 0. After halftime, the CMS 8th Grade defense decided to figure things out and get a few turnovers of their own. It also helped that the offense put together some good drives and finished them. Jack Marshall, Brenten "Hubby" Ralls, and Oliver Perry were standouts on offense with a long touchdown run behind the blocking of the offensive line - Benson Summers, Lance Sayers, Colton Sullivan, Gavin Cooper, and Jackson Shafer. Also, the tight ends - Noah Rinehart and Connor Peery were overpowering their defensive ends, too. Defensively, Tylin Smith disrupted the middle of the line and had several tackles for loss. Cooper and Drake Swift were in the backfield and controlling their gaps on the defensive line, too. Rinehart and Peery were also our Defensive Ends causing havoc on the Macon sweeps and pass plays. Rinehart had several QB pressures and Peery had at least one fumble recovery. Marshall kept the defense together and made several tackles along with one near interception that would have led to an easy score for Jack. Special teams only had one costly penalty and had a good kickoff return by Rinehart and another by Gage VanDusen in his first action back from injury. Next week, we travel to Marshall and then end the season in two weeks back at home vs Kirksville. The 8th Grade record is now 1-2-1.
