Kindness is everywhere at CES! The three recipients of this week's awards were nominated by a teacher or staff member for showing exceptional kindness. They received a sunshine bag and the opportunity to sit in the yellow sunshine chair over the next week to promote kindness throughout CES!
Olivia “Rosie” Standley (Miss Howard’s First Grade Class)
Olivia is always a considerate friend and respectful to her teacher. She works hard at school to help everyone learn! Olivia goes above and beyond to help to keep our classroom and our school clean. She is courteous to other adults in the building and kind to everyone she encounters on the playground. Nice job Olivia letting your kind shine to your classmates.
Tenley Scheib (Mrs. Wolfe’s 3rd Grade Class)
Tenley, without complaining, walks with another student at the end of the day to make sure she gets where she needs to be without getting lost. In the classroom she is a helper for this student and every other student! She is so kind and always helpful to everyone!! Bayler Schneiter is always willing to help my students who are struggling. A kind act I just found out about was he visited a special needs students house at Halloween and asked to see him. When his mom allowed him to come to the door, he gave the kid a great big hug. This act of kindness brought tears to the student's mom. She said no one had ever done that before. He is always kind and compassionate towards this student in class as well. He is just an all around great kid!

On February 10, 2025, our teachers and staff participated in a Professional Development Day focused on collaboration, planning, and safety preparedness.
The morning began with a delicious breakfast from JT’s, setting the stage for a productive day. Staff then took part in building tours, reviewed updates to professional development plans, engaged in team planning, and participated in curriculum meetings to enhance instructional practices.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to active shooter response training, a critical exercise involving multiple agencies from Chillicothe, Livingston County, and the state of Missouri. Participating organizations included the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Chillicothe Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Department of Conservation, Chillicothe Fire Department, and Hedrick Medical Center. This simulation provided staff with hands-on practice in emergency response, reinforcing preparedness and ensuring a coordinated approach to school safety.
A special thank you to SRO Lewis for organizing this vital training and to all agencies involved for their commitment to keeping our school community safe.
Our amazing PTO provided fun games and activities for our kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th-grade classrooms during their Valentine’s Day parties. We are so grateful for the incredible support of our CES parents and PTO!
Our 3rd-grade Tadpoles explored the Auto Service Tech, Hospitality & Tourism, and Early Childhood Professions programs at GRTS last week, gaining hands-on insights into these exciting career fields!

CES is incredibly proud of our Teacher of the Year finalists, Mrs. Natalie Holcer and Mrs. Katie Maples, as well as our Beacon Award finalists, Mr. Marty Sharp and Mrs. Kelly Potts! A special congratulations to our talented art teacher, Mrs. Katie Maples, for being named the Chillicothe R-2 District Teacher of the Year! We are grateful for the dedication and excellence of all our amazing teachers and staff at CES!
