🎨 Monochromatic Self-Portraits & Keepsakes! 🎨

To kick off the school year, our K-5 artists have been hard at work creating monochromatic self-portraits! Each grade level used their official hallway color to celebrate their current milestone:

🟦 Kindergarten: Blue

🟩 1st Grade: Green

🟪 2nd Grade: Purple

🟧 3rd Grade: Orange

🟨 4th Grade: Yellow

🟥 5th Grade: Red

Each piece has been laminated, and on the back of your child's artwork, you’ll find a special grade-level poem written just for them. These portraits are designed to document their growth, year by year, serving as a sweet visual memory of their time in elementary school—from their very first steps in Kindergarten all the way to leading the school in 5th Grade!

Keep an eye out in the hallways to see our students' incredible artwork on display, and get ready to treasure these keepsakes at home! ❤️✨

Yesterday was Tasting Tuesday in the Chillicothe R-II School District! Students at CES, CMS, and CHS enjoyed fresh-grown lettuce and micro-greens from our local producer, Table Top Farms.

A big shoutout to our 5th graders and CHS Hornet Academy students for helping rinse and cut the lettuce for today’s tasting - students gave it a big thumbs up!

This project is funded through a Local Foods for Schools Grant through the Department of Education. Tasting Tuesdays will happen the first Tuesday of every month as we work to bring healthy, nutritious foods to our lunchrooms and help students learn where our food comes from.

Our students bring us sunshine on a rainy day 💛☀️ “Let Your Kind Shine” Kindness is everywhere at CES! The three recipients of this week's awards were nominated by a teacher or staff member for showing exceptional kindness. They received a sunshine keepsake and the opportunity to sit in the yellow sunshine chair over the next week to promote kindness throughout CES! Riley Smith (Mrs. Hansen’s Kindergarten) Riley Smith is always willing to help others, even when she is not asked. I recently noticed her helping a fellow classmate carry a large bag of belongings into the school. She has also gone out of her way to help a student who was feeling nervous about coming into the building. Riley consistently demonstrates kindness, compassion, and a willingness to support those around her. Remi Flick (Ms. Myers 2nd Grade) Remi is always quick to be a helping hand. She shows kindness everyday by being friendly to everyone! Kinley Jeffries (Mrs. Dodson’s 4th Grade) Kinley greets everyone in the morning with a smile and a "good morning." She is always the first to offer to do something for someone and never expects anything back in return. We are so glad she is in our room! Way to go!

3rd graders playing along to the Star Wars Main Theme on Boomwhackers as part of our Composer of the Month study of John Williams! 🎶⭐️

5th graders in Mrs. Davis’ class teamed up with 2nd graders in Ms. Myers’ class to create fall-themed bookmarks to inspire more reading time! This kind of cross-grade connection supports our focus on Student Success & Learning and helps strengthen our culture & communication.

📞Positive Phone Call Home! 📞 Miss Sutton Lowrey was our first Positive Phone Call Home of the week! 🎉 Sutton always has a smile to share and continues to work hard each day at CES. We are so proud of her positive attitude and growth! Way to go, Sutton! Keep shining! 🌟

CES proudly celebrated Patriot Day today! Students made patriotic hats and took time to honor and thank our first responders for all they do for our school and community.

We’re so grateful for our Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring volunteers! This week, our tutors participated in training as they prepare to provide CES students with extra practice, encouragement, and one-on-one support. ❤️ This year, our Oasis program is expanding beyond literacy to include math support, too! Volunteers work one-on-one with students in K-1st grade building skills, confidence, and special connections throughout the school year. Pictured are a few of our awesome volunteers, along with Oasis Coordinator Mandy Plybon. We’re thankful for the time, care, and encouragement they give our Hornets!

Alan Lubert, longtime Community Relations Manager for Ronald McDonald House Charities, joined us during today’s lunch shifts to encourage our students to pull together for a great cause! ❤️ CES is collecting pop tabs to help support the 7th Ronald McDonald House in the Kansas City area. The classroom that collects the most tabs will earn an ice cream party! 🍦 Start saving those tabs—let’s "pull" together, CES!

CES Homecoming Spirit Week

“Let Your Kind Shine” Kindness is everywhere at CES! The three recipients of this week's awards were nominated by a teacher or staff member for showing exceptional kindness. They received a sunshine keepsake and the opportunity to sit in the yellow sunshine chair over the next week to promote kindness throughout CES! Wesley Ferguson (Miss Snyder’s 1st Grade) Wesley is quick to offer a hand to help and does it with a smile. He's been spotted out on the playground helping another student learn to shoot a basketball. Wesley is also willing to escort other students to make sure they find their way at CES. Great Work, Wesley! Shia Morehead (Mrs. Howe’s 2nd Grade) Shia is a kind and thoughtful member of 2nd Grade. She notices when classmates need support and will step in without being asked. Whether it is to share supplies or help an upset peer, she is always willing to be there for them. Way to let your kindness shine, Shia! Colton Newton (Mrs. Dodson’s 4th Grade) Colton is such a positive light in our classroom! He is always helping out classmates if they need something, greets everyone with a smile, and gives the best hugs! We are so glad he is in our classroom this year!
