Free & Reduced Lunch

For the first time since the spring of 2020, parents of students eating Chillicothe R-II’s school food will be asked to pay for their children’s meals.

“Unfortunately, we must charge for the breakfasts and lunches our students eat during the upcoming school year because the District is no longer receiving federal funds to cover this cost,” Superintendent Dr. Dan Wiebers explained.

Because all student accounts will be charged for meals eaten this school year, Wiebers is encouraging everyone to fill out the 2022 Free and Reduced Meals Application, which may be found on the district website at the following link:  2022-2023 Free & Reduced Lunch Application Paper forms may also be picked up at any school building on August 1, 2022.

The Chillicothe Board of Education recently set the meal prices for the 2022-23 school year as follows:

  • $1.25 for K-5th grade breakfasts

  • $2.20 for K-5th grade lunches.

  • $1.50 for 6th-12th grade breakfast

  • $2.45 for 6th-12th grade lunches.

The new rates for meals means that parents of students in grades Kindergarten -5th grade who eat breakfast and lunches every day this school year will be asked to pay $467.50 per child. Parents of 6th-12th grade students will be charged $790.50 per child for the 170 days classes are in session. “We realize that many of our Chillicothe families are struggling with the rising costs of fuel and groceries right now. Hopefully, we can get as many people as possible to apply for free or reduced meals to help ease that burden,” Wiebers said.

Parents wanted to deposit money into their student(s) lunch accounts in preparation for the coming school year may do so using the District’s online payment portal: https://chillicotheschools.revtrak.net/
