The Chillicothe R-II School District would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Chillicothe Education Foundation for its generous $5,000 gift to support the future of CHS athletics history and student learning.
This donation will fund the transition of the CHS sports history and statistics website - originally founded and maintained by the late longtime KCHI sports announcer and dedicated CHS sports supporter Randy Dean - so it can be housed under the Chillicothe R-II School District website. Moving this resource to the district’s website helps preserve an important piece of Hornet history while also making it easier for students, families, alumni, and our community to access.
Work is already underway, and the district expects the transition to be completed in October. As soon as the sports history page is fully under the umbrella of the Chillicothe R-II School District website, one of the district’s newest CHS course, Student Information, will take on the ongoing responsibility of updating the stats and content.
The class is taught by Lee Rucker, one of CHS’s two athletic directors, and students are already producing timely content for our community - including social media graphics and stats posted to the high school’s live feed on the Hornet app and to the CHS Facebook page. Once the sports history site move is complete, students will apply those same skills to maintaining the records and statistics housed on the district website.
This project is more than a website move - it’s real-world learning. Through Student Information, students gain hands-on experience in communications, digital content management, accuracy in reporting, and meeting deadlines - skills that translate directly to college, careers, and lifelong learning.
We are grateful to the Chillicothe Education Foundation for investing in opportunities that connect students to meaningful work while honoring the legacy of those who helped build Hornet pride. Randy Dean’s dedication to CHS athletics has meant so much to this community, and we are proud to carry that work forward in a way that also supports today’s students.
