The Chillicothe R-II Board of Education took an important step Tuesday morning, that reflect the district’s continued commitment to strong planning, fiscal responsibility, and supporting students.
As part of the district’s long-term transportation and facilities plan, the Board approved the purchase of the John Hutchinson property for $500,000. This purchase will be funded entirely through a Fund 4 Lease Purchase, meaning no Fund 1 operational dollars - the funds used for classroom instruction and daily operations - will be used for this purchase.
The district plans to renovate the property into a new transportation bus barn and maintenance facility. This move is expected to create future fuel and operational savings by reducing daily bus mileage.
In addition, the district plans to sell the current south-side bus barn property, with proceeds from that sale helping to fund needed updates and improvements to the new facility.
Chillicothe R-II will continue to share updates as planning moves forward.
