Chillicothe R-II receives $10,000 grant from Donaldson Company

The Chillicothe R-II School District is excited to announce that it has received a $10,000 grant from Donaldson Co., of Chillicothe which will help students expand their knowledge in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM).

Specifically, the funds will be used to purchase high tech items including iPod Touches, charging ports, and Google VR headsets - all of which will enhance the learning experiences of R-II students.

“It’s increasingly apparent that we need to better prepare our students to work in the 21st Century workplace. To do this, our classrooms need to be equipped with the same technologies that are found and utilized in that arena,” Melissa Young, director of technology, said.

The R-II District began emphasizing STEAM four years ago, under the direction of STEAM coordinator Sophie Chambers. The program has grown tremendously since then, and the technology purchased with these funds will further enhance student learning in grades K-12.

“This is yet another instance when a local business has stepped forward to dramatically improve the quality of the education we can offer our students,” Superintendent Dan Wiebers said, adding, “I continue to be impressed and grateful by the generosity of this community.”
