Our CHS Golf Team practices and holds local meets at the Green Hills Golf Course. Another outstanding season of Chillicothe Hornets golf - one which featured the Midland Empire Conference tournament title, a near-miss of a district team title, and three players qualifying individually for the state tournament - was celebrated at the high school during the annual postseason awards/recognition banquet.

Inaugural CHS Girls' Soccer Camp July 24-27
Wednesday, July 12, 2006, C-T

In anticipation of the beginning of a girls' soccer program at Chillicothe High School next spring, an instructional camp for high school- and middle school-age girls will be held July 24-27. Any girls thinking about going out for the first CHS girls' soccer team in 2007 are invited to participate “to find out what it will take to play on the high school level,” according to camp organizers.

The instructor for the camp, which will involve two sessions a day each of the four days, will be Dick Westbrook of St. Louis. He is the head coach of the Visitation Academy high school girls' team which shared the state's Class 1 state title this spring after winning it in 2004. Camp participants can pay $125 and attend both sessions each day or, if perhaps a work or other activities schedule precludes attending both, pay $75 to go to the morning sessions or $50 for the evening sessions. The session times will be 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. The camp will be held at Brick's Back Acre Field, a mile west of U.S. Highway 65 on Missouri Highway 190, northwest of Chillicothe.

Westbrook is a member of the prestigious St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame. He's a former college coach at Washington University in St. Louis and was the Missouri Youth Soccer Association's 2001 boys' coach of the year, according to the camp news release. He also is currently assistant director of player development for the St. Louis Soccer Club/Busch Soccer Club, a club which was won more state championships than any other club in the United States over the past 30 years, the release notes.

For additional information on the camp or to obtain registration, medical information, and parental consent form for it, interested girls may either stop by the office of Dr. Roger Brick at 609 Clay St. during business hours (closed Thursdays), call 646-3064 during evening hours, or e-mail rbrick@greenhills.net.

At last check by the C-T with Chillicothe schools Superintendent Dale Wallace, a coach or coaches for the girls' soccer program had not yet been decided upon.
