In 1998, Phil Willard, a 1969 Chillicothe High School alumnus, succeeded CHS Hornets coaching legend, Bob Fairchild, as head coach. Fairchild had guided his teams to 307 career wins over 37 years. Willard guided his first six Hornets teams into the state playoffs, compiling respective records of 8-3, 9-2, 7-4, 9-2, 9-2, and 10-2. The Chillicothe Hornets football teams have won the Midland Empire Conference championship ten (10) times: 1970, 1986-1991, 1993-94, and 1996. See What the Football Moms Are Doing 2008
