Chillicothe Summer School Program Offered to Chula Students
Published: Monday, April 13, 2009, C-T

The Livingston County R-3 School Board has elected new officers and approved an option which makes Chillicothe’s summer school session available to Chula Accelerated School students. The action occurred Tuesday night during the regular April R-3 board meeting held at Chula Accelerated School.

After board members Steve Case and Ann Hamilton took the oath of office, the board elected a new president and vice president. Jimmy Meservey was elected president of the board with five votes. Meservey, however, cast his vote for board member Dan Murphy and board member Clint Campbell voted for board member Ann Hamilton to lead the panel. In the election of the new vice president, Hamilton received the most votes (five) and was elected to that office. Murphy received two votes, cast by Hamilton and Campbell.

During the meeting, the board unanimously approved a motion made by Murphy to allow Chula students to attend Chillicothe R-2’s summer school program. The school is scheduled to have its sewer lines replaced this summer and because of the project, school officials say, the kitchen will not be available for use. So, according to administrator Sara Littrell, the district was not going to host a summer school program until it was contacted by Chillicothe R-2 District officials, who asked if the neighboring district would like to participate in its planned program.

Chillicothe R-2 will be transporting the Chula students enrolled in summer school to and from school via an R-2 bus.
