School District Offers Gift Cards for Completed Free and Reduced Lunch Forms Sent to District Parents
Published: Tuesday, October 21, 2008, C-T

The Chillicothe R-2 School District is encouraging parents and guardians to fill out and turn in a Free and Reduced lunch form. “Even if you choose to pay for your child’s lunches and or breakfasts, each qualified application earns $1,025 per child of state money for our school district,” said assistant R-2 superintendent Wade Schroeder. Those who return a completed form will receive a $10 Wal-Mart gift card and will be entered to win an additional $100 gift card.

The number of applications for free and reduced lunch on file at the local school on the last Wednesday in January has a direct bearing on the amount of state money the district will receive during the next school year. Each child on a Free or Reduced Breakfast/Lunch Form will generate an additional $1,025 in state funds for the school district. It will also keep the district’s E-rate reimbursement at a high percentage, which allows the district to get 75 percent of its communications costs reimbursed by the federal government.

All personal records are kept confidential and only the Food Service Director reviews the applications. If for some reason families may not qualify at this time, they may apply at anytime throughout the year. Parents or guardians who are unsure whether they qualify are urged to fill out the form anyway. Anyone requiring any assistance filling out the application, is urged to contact a school building office manger. Those needing further information may call 646-4566.

Limit one gift card per household, participants who already participate in the Free and Reduced program can stop by the Chillicothe R-2 School District Office located at 1020 Old Highway 36 West and receive a $10 gift card. One $100 Gift card will be given away per building at Dewey, Field, and Central. Two $100. Gift cards will be given away per building at both the Middle School and at the High School.
