Upgrade Being Made to Intersection Near CHS C-T Photo / Catherine Stortz Ripley
Work is now taking place to improve safety at the intersection of Missouri Route 190 and Hornet Drive near Chillicothe High School. In a cost share project with local entities, the Missouri Department of Transportation is extending a turn lane and will install a flashing signal. Upgrades to the entrance of the Chillicothe High School located on Route 190 will lengthen the right turn lane, add school speed limit flashers and a new delineation system to guide traffic and improve safety. The school approached MoDOT, and along with the city of Chillicothe and Livingston County, has entered into an agreement to fund the improvements. The project involves installing a raised curb made of a rubberized material recently approved for MoDOT use about four inches high, one foot wide and 200 feet long separating the turn lane from Route 190, according to James Gillespie, MoDOT resident engineer. While delineators will also be installed to stretch 200 feet from east of the intersection to stop people from getting back onto 190 once in the turn lane or from pulling into the middle of the turning lane. “Anyone who turns into the turning lane will not be able to get back onto 190,” Gillespie said. The intersection work is hoped to deter inadvertent collisions, he said. |
