R-2 Board Ballot to Feature Four Candidates

Chillicothe R-2 voters will chose two of four candidates running for board seats in the April 7 election. The filing period opened Dec. 16 and closed Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 5 p.m.

The seats currently held by Julie McCoy and Rick Baker are available. McCoy, who has served on the board since 2000, is finishing her third consecutive term on the board. Baker, who was elected in 2006, is completing his first term and currently serves as the board’s vice president.

Also on the ballot are Robbie Skipper, 31, of 8492 Liv 508, who was the first candidate to file. His candidacy declaration marks the third consecutive time he has tried to win a seat on the board over the past three years.

Baker, 46, of 11362 Old Highway 190, filed next; McCoy, 47, of 8492 Liv 508 filed third and Paul R. Thomas, 37, of 825 Jansen Street, filed last. Thomas tried unsuccessfully for a seat on the board in April 2007.

A four-way contested race for the two Chillicothe R-2 board seats up for grabs on April 7, 2009, emerged this (Tuesday) morning shortly after the filing period opened.

  • Robbie Skipper, 31, of 8492 Liv 508, filed first at 7:55 a.m. at district headquarters. Skipper ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the board both in the April 2007 and 2008 elections. His candidacy declaration marks the third consecutive time he has tried to win a seat on the board over the past three years.
  • Next to file was Randy Baker, 46, of 11362 Old Highway 190, who filed at 7:55 a.m. and is finishing up his first two-year term on the board. He currently serves as the board vice president.
  • Julie McCoy, 47, of 8492 Liv 508, is finishing her third consecutive two-year term. She filed at 8 a.m.
  • Paul R. Thomas, 37, of 825 Jansen Street, filed at 8:30 a.m. Thomas tried unsuccessfully for a seat on the board in April 2007.

The filing period for the April 7, 2009 election closes on Jan. 20 at 5 p.m.
