CHS Musicians Honored at Concert
C-T Photo / Amanda McKay A score of band students were honored Wednesday evening at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center during the spring concert presented by Chillicothe High School’s instrumental music department. The evening included pieces performed by the Chillicothe High School symphonic band and jazz band as well as solos and small ensembles. Dave Goodwin and Sarah Cavanah are the school’s band directors. The evening came to an end with the presentation of band awards, presented by Dave Goodwin and Sarah Cavanah. The highest award of the evening was the John Philip Sousa Award given to Donald Heaton and Cari Stockard. The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was given to Donald Heaton. The Charles W. Maupin Award went to Vanessa Jones. Wednesday night’s concert was dedicated to the senior band members which include: Jamie Baker, Barbara Boley, Jessica Boyer, Andie Cassity, Zach Colvin, Kila Fletchall, Cynda Gear, Ian Gramenz, Greg Griesbach, Ben Griffin, Donald Heaton, Zach Ireland, Vanessa Jones, Brooke Lewis, Jon Martin, Lily Pyrtle, Cassandra Sherrow, Beth Skipper, Cari Stockard, Ellyn Turner, Montana Vinson and Trent Worman. Other special award winners for the evening were Caitlin Mitchell, most improved; Elizabeth Sivill, outstanding freshman; Bradee Gabel, outstanding sophomore; and Samantha Figg, outstanding junior. Students earning a band letter for the first time were: Andie Cassity, Emily Clark, Caleb Coleman, Jordan Gardner, Greg Griesbach, Katie Kitchen, Shian McBee, Maggie McCoy, Chelsea Mullen, Blake Reed, Ben Shull, Elizabeth Sivill (awarded 29 points, the most points in the ninth grade), Marshall Suchsland, Emmy Venner and Jamie Westphal.
