The Litton Center is used
by people of all ages.
They can hike a nature trail, visit farm
animals, and have full access to an outdoor classroom. They can also experience an
artificial wetland and study a 2.3 acre lake.
Some of the educational goals of the center include:
FFA and Ag Education Classes
- To allow students to learn about farm animals with
hands-on experience
- To allow students to learn about soil and water
conservation
- To allow students to learn about various crops and
cropping systems
- To allow students to develop SAEP's (animals, gardens, lab
responsibilities)
- To allow students to learn about wildlife habitat and
preservation
Young Farmers
- To use the area for crop variety test plots

- To allow members to gain experience with alternative crops
and their cultural practices
- To allow members to gain experience with conservation
practices which could be used on their home farm
Elementary Classes
- To study the change of seasons
- To become familiar with various farm animals
- To become familiar with different types of plants and how
they grow
- To study insects and how they are included in the chain of
life
- To study the various organisms around a pond and their
life cycles

Junior High Classes
- To be able to culture, seine, and study pond life
- To study native tree species
- To study various types of grasslands
- To aid in the study of geology and fossils
- To aid in the study of plant and animal classification
High School Classes
- To study the interrelationship between the local climate
and the types of organisms present
- To outline the various steps involved in the ecological
succession of a Missouri forest
- To name and identify key tree associations present
- To name and identify key animal associations present
- To name and identify key flower and weed associations

Post-Secondary Farm Management Students
- To allow students to learn about the care and handling of
livestock
- To provide a working laboratory for studying livestock
reproduction, health, and nutrition
- To provide a working laboratory for the study of soils and
crop nutrition
- To allow students to learn about various crops and
cropping systems
- To provide a working laboratory for the study of ag
mechanics, soil and water management, and machinery operation
