Central School is proud of its students and
thankful to the parents who help us teach their children.
Thanks to our staff, students, and parents, Central is the best it can be! Even though our
students are only in the 4th and 5th grades, they are involved in our community. We
believe all children can contribute to the community they live in. In 2003, our students
assisted the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce with their annual fundraising auction.
Our students are also
building an outdoor classroom with the help of their parents who are donating their time,
materials, and equipment. It is only through joint cooperation and working together that
we are able to prepare our students for the future. For more information about our outdoor
classroom and the photo at left, visit our Central
School GRANT page.

eMINTS Classrooms
Our school is home to two eMINTS' classrooms. eMINTS stands for
"enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies" and
transforms elementary classrooms into places for learning where teachers and students use
multimedia tools to better understand the world, work together and achieve at new and
higher levels.
Melissa
Anderson teaches 24 fourth grade students, and Michelle Vinson teaches
24 fifth grade students in our eMINTS' classroom. For more information
about eMINTS, you may visit the eMINTS'
web site. You are also welcome to visit Mrs. Anderson's and

Vinson's web sites.

Teacher Honors
The Chillicothe Education Foundation
awards "mini-grants" each year. The teachers who receive the grants submit
applications to the foundation, and their entries are then judged and selected from the
group. As of the 2002-2003 school year, $3,000 has been awarded for the
"mini-grant" program. The funds for these "mini-grants" are raised
through the Chillicothe Education Foundation Golf Tournament held each May. Recipients for
the 2002-2003 school year (approved from a field of 17) included Anne Jeschke
(front row, 3rd from left) and Cinthia Barnes (front row, 4th from left)
from Central School. Mrs. Nylene Sage was selected Central's Teacher of
the Year for the 2002-2003 school year.
In addition, Anne Jeschke was named
Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year in March, 2002, at the annual Missouri
Council for the Social Studies Conference held in St. Louis; and, Cindy Barnes was honored with National Professional
Board Certification in middle level Social Studies. More details may be found on the Teacher Awards page of the Operation Outreach web site.
We are so proud of our
teachers!!

Mini-Choraliers
Mrs. Debra Brick organizes a group of 4th and 5th grade students each year to perform as
"mini-choraliers." The Choraliers are a popular group of high school students
who sing and dance (visit the Student Activities link above left for more information),
and our mini-choraliers are a smaller version! Try-outs are held each new school year, and
students practice twice a week after school in the Fall for performances during December.

Playground
The playground equipment at Central
is the result of a two-year fundraising project by the students and staff. The school received
two donations from the community to help with the project, which cost $24,000. A cadrea of
parents, teachers, and students selected the equipment, and it was installed during the
summer of 2001.
It is a well-deserved addition to
Central. Students, neighbors from the area, and grandparents come to the playground to
picnic and play.
Thanks to the Chillicothe
Constitution Tribune for many of these photos!
Library
We have a beautiful library. Our
librarian is Mrs. Betty Sue Radcliff. Stop by and visit us
any
time. For more information about our library and the photo at left, visit our Central
School GRANT page.
Students from Cinthia Barnes'
fifth-class grade class at
Central Accelerated School are shown here shopping for books at
the Scholastic Books' fair at the school library in March. Scholastic Books is a company
out of Jefferson City. They have been doing book fairs at Chillicothe schools for over 20
years. The book fairs are held at Central School and also at Field School. (C-T Photo by Dave Kinnamon)
