The Chillicothe Hornets used a strong defense to beat Platte County for the first time in school history 28-14 at Platte County Stadium on Wednesday night, November 12. The Hornets win snapped Platte County's 52-game winning streak, the second longest in Missouri history and 5th longest current streak in the nation. Chillicothe is the first team since Aurora in 1999 to beat Platte County. Willard said the Hornets won because his players finally believed they could beat Platte County. Leading Up to the Big Win...

Partial Article from the Chillicothe Constitution Tribune, Monday, November 10, 2003
Ed Crawford, C-T Sports Writer

Chillicothe uses 6 takeaways, big drive to topple Maryville, 28-14.

It was a perfect November playoff football weather. A brisk chill in the air greeted fans in red and back, as well as those in green and yellow. But, nobody from the fans to the players to the coaches took notice of the weather when the long-anticipated Class 3, District 16 clash between a pair of 8-1 state-ranked powers got underway. The entire season boiled down to one barn-burning context. In the end, Chillicothe took advantage of six Maryville turnovers and mounted a grueling second-half drive that took most of the spirit from the Hounds in an impressive 28-14 win. The Senior Night victory gave the Hornets its 8th straight district title and earned Chillicothe a rematch at Platte County in the Class 3 Sectionals Wednesday, November 12.
